On this page, you can find all kinds of information about the Diode Facility and the 856-D Specimen, such as how to unlock this location and the best strategies how to defeat the boss.
How to unlock
Before you can unlock this location, you'll first need to assemble your bicycle. Once you have build your bicycle, go to the Engineer's Post and talk to the trader C.H.A.P. near Splinter. He sells pieces of the coordinates of the Diode Facility, in exchange for Plus-Minus artefacts. These artefacts can be obtained from the Old Gas Station reward. Once you have bought all twelve coordinate parts, the Diode Facility appears on your map. But before you can enter the Diode Facility, you have to collect at least one Diode Facility Key, which will be stored in your PDA. These can be found in the small room at the side of the Old Gas Station backyard.

These are the items you should take if you want to clear the Diode Facility:

Walkthrough
Now that you're properly prepared, you can face the boss.
The first thing you have to do is to prepare your bicycle. Make sure you have enough grease for the trip, and put on a Cycling Bag if you have one. Also, I suggest you leave your ranged bicycle weapon and melee bicycle weapon, since you won't use them in the facility anyway. They are even a liability, for when you click on them accidentally, you run towards the boss and he can damage you. Also, if you don't have a Diode Facility Key in your PDA, you can't get in. You can get those keys from the small room at the backyard of the Old Gas Station. Once you got there, speak to the Trader C.H.A.P. in front to buy any equipment or consumables you didn't have yet. Next, you have to open the door, using 1 Diode Facility Key. Before the door opens, you can read a declaration from the Institute in which they explain that if you die, your items will be left at the entrance of the facility. Now you can enter.
Now that you're actually in the Diode Facility, it's time to use your consumables. Use your Foil and booster food and check if you're holding the right gun and equipment. Now, sneak up to the 856-D Specimen. If you brought a Viper Bite Rifle or Call of Death Rifle for extra damage at the start, use it now and quickly switch to your normal gun. The boss will start running after you now, so start running as well. While you're kiting him, pay attention to the following:
After you killed the 856-D Specimen, the Firefly Watchman, accompanied by the Mad Fireflies roaming the faciltity, will come for you. If you brought Guide's armor, equip it now, since the Fireflies will deplete your armor durability very fast. Make sure you equipped your Grenades as well so you can easily kill all Fireflies. They have very little health, so this shouldn't be too hard. Next, kill the Firefly Watchman, grab the loot from the Institute container and walk out of the Diode Facility as a true champion.

- Don't step on the electric abberations! These will consume the durability of your Pusher and Insulation fast. It also does some damage, so try to avoid them.
- Don't get too near the boss! His normal attack deals heavy damage, but his special is deadly, even with your armor. Once you get hit by his special, you almost instantly die. Also, if you get too close, the Firefly Watchman will hit you, which drains your equipment as well.
